Democrat Kilmartin is re-elected attorney general
Published on: Nov 4, 2014
AP - Democrat Peter Kilmartin has fended off a challenge from a state senator to win a second term as Rhode Island attorney general.

The 52-year-old Kilmartin defeated Republican Dawson Hodgson on Tuesday. Kilmartin is a retired police officer who represented Pawtucket in the General Assembly for 20 years before being elected attorney general in 2010.

Hodgson criticized Kilmartin's leadership on handling the 38 Studios investigation, tackling public corruption and enforcing the state's open record laws.

Kilmartin said Hodgson distorted his record. He maintained he has worked to root out corruption and other illegal behavior by public officials and made government more transparent.

Kilmartin also cited his "prudent" use of millions of dollars in Google money, which the company forfeited in a federal investigation into search engine ads for illegal prescription drug sales.
