The International Brotherhood of Police Officers in Rhode Island is supporting Democrat Peter Kilmartin's bid to be the next state attorney general.
In a news release Tuesday, Anthony Capezza, state director of the IBPO, said: "We are particularly impressed by Peter's 24 years as a police officer, where he worked hard to protect Rhode Islanders from crime and supported the concerns of our law enforcement community."
Kilmartin is a former Pawtucket police officer.
The organization said it is the bargaining representative for 28 municipal police departments and the Department of Defense Civilian Police in Newport. All told, 1,200 police officers in Rhode Island are IBPO members, the news release said.
