Pawtucket, RI – Today, the Rhode Island International Brotherhood of Police Officers (IBPO) endorsed Peter Kilmartin for re-election as Attorney General of Rhode Island, citing his history of leadership in helping to keep Rhode Island families safe and track record as an advocate for the Ocean State’s law enforcement community.

“I am honored to receive the support of the brothers and sisters of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers,” said Kilmartin. “As a former Pawtucket Police Captain, and now Attorney General, I know firsthand the challenges and difficulties that law enforcement officers face on the beat and in the courtroom. Four years ago I promised Rhode Islanders that I would help supply stronger tools to provide justice, and today, we remain committed to fulfilling that promise.”

The IBPO cited Peter Kilmartin’s leadership on a wide-range of law enforcement related bills to strengthen the criminal justice system, including new laws on Ignition Interlock, Child Safe Zones, Gang Enforcement and Altered Firearms. In addition, the IBPO praised the office of the Attorney General’s partnership with Police Officers to provide statewide legal training on Identity Crime, Synthetic Drugs Training, and Marijuana Enforcement.

“Peter’s record on behalf of the law enforcement community speaks for itself. As both a police officer and as the Attorney General, he has helped lead the way to protect our neighborhoods and keep families in Rhode Island safe,” said Anthony Capezza Jr., the Rhode Island State Director of the IBPO.  “Time and again, he has proven the ability to enforce the law without fear or favor, and provides our members with the tools they need to fight crime effectively.”
